CATEC attended the Congress on Applications of Drones in Civil Engineering (Civildron 2016), held on 26 and 27 January in Madrid. This congress brought together major companies and entities in the unmanned aircraft systems sector (RPAS / UAV) in Spain. In total, 400 professionals and experts presented their solutions and products developed in the field of civil engineering.

CATEC’s Head of Avionics and Systems, Antidio Viguria, presented at a conference some of the experiences and national and international R&D projects carried out in the use of remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) in civil applications. In particular, he talked about the European projects FIELDCOPTER and PLANET, and the initiatives TERMOFLIGHT and ARID-LAP, as well as our collaboration in the RECUPERA 2020 Programme, developed by the Biological Station of Doñana (the Spanish National Research Council, CSIC).

Moreover, Anastasio Sánchez, director of the ATLAS Center, participated with other institutions and organizations in the round table “Prospects for the future”. In his speech, he presented our test center for RPAS (located in Jaen) and its capabilities and infrastructure for this type of testing, as well as analyzing the challenges and problems of the use and operation of RPAS from the point of view of telecommunications.

Other issues and trends were analyzed for a proper RPAS development from a viewpoint of design and construction of systems, validation and certification, standards and applications.
