CATEC has successfully passed the technical control of the European Commission for the projects EC-SAFEMOBIL and ARCAS, both initiatives that belong to the UE Seventh Framework Programme for R&D in the EU and which are led and coordinated by our Center in the field of unmanned aerial systems (UAV's) and robotics. Thanks to this milestone, our center meets the established planning requirements in both projects, allowing to continue with a satisfactory progress in the development of the different works and tasks included in the two European initiatives. The results have been well received by controllers of the Commission, who emphasized the level of fulfillment of the projects and the involvement of partners and entities.
In the case of EC-SAFEMOBIL, the project will finish soon its second year of work and aims to develop new multivehicle cooperative technologies using unmanned aerial systems (UAS).
Meanwhile, ARCAS focuses on the development and experimental validation of the first free-flying robot system equipped with robotic manipulators capable of working cooperatively to develop joint applications such as maintenance and assembly of structures in inaccessible locations or involving a significant risk to humans. In this case, the initiative has finished its first year of work and begins research for the second exercise.
