Experts from the centre present the latest research and projects on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles in the I UAVs and Flight Control Systems Symposium
The High Technical School of Engineering of the University of Seville has been the scene, from the 4th to the 9th of March, of the I UAVs and Flight Control Systems Symposium, a meeting organised by the European Association of Aerospace Students (Euroavia) through its delegation in Seville. The meeting gathered students of aeronautics from across Europe, as well as companies, experts, and professionals of the sector that analysed the latest technologies and developments in this growing area of the aerospace industry, and its future possibilities. The meeting had the support of CATEC. Among the participants, we might particularly mention the presence of remarkable speakers of high prestige at both national and international level, including several experts and scientists of CATEC who showed the main research lines of the centre in the field of avionics and unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as the latest projects and developments in this field, where it leads several European initiatives.

Thus, the director of the Avionics & Unmanned Systems Area of CATEC, Antidio Viguria, and the engineer and researcher of CATEC Daniel Santamaría gave different lectures and talks. Other participants were: the Professor of Ingeniería de Sistemas y Automática (Systems Engineering and Automation) of the Universidad de Sevilla and consultant of CATEC, Anibal Ollero, and other representatives and people in charge of EADS, Cassidian, the Universidad de Sevilla, the Politecnico di Milano (Milan Polytechnic University), MDU and Skylife Engineering. The event, which included various conferences and workshops, became an excellent forum for discussion and exchange of knowledge.

The symposium also included a programme of visits to several institutions, such as El Arenosillo, the headquarters of the National Institute for Aerospace Technology (INTA) situated in Mazagón (Huelva), and CATEC’s own facilities. Thus, the young students got to know the leading technology infrastructures of our centre, particularly the laboratories and workshops of the Avionics and Unmanned Systems Area, as well as some of the pioneering initiatives that are being developed and coordinated in this context at international level.
