The Andalusian Foundation for Aerospace Development (FADA) and the Provincial Council of Jaen have signed an agreement to develop a pilot project to monitor farms using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). ATLAS is managed by FADA and is located in Villacarrillo (Jaén).
It will be developed a pioneering system to detect, at night, intruders on farms using UAV that are controlled remotely. Aircraft will count on a system of nocturnal and infrared sensors that will monitor farms, mainly olive groves, to avoid theft. The project, called MOCHUELO, will be held initially on olive farms located 30 kilometers around the ATLAS Center. The end of the project is scheduled for June 2016.
The agreement was signed by the president of the Provincial Council of Jaén, Francisco Reyes; and the general director of FADA, Joaquín Rodríguez Grau. The both stressed the usefulness of this project in the field of agriculture, such as olive, strategic sector in the province of Jaen. The director of FADA said that the intruders detection in fields are based on the application of thermography technology, which through the use of cameras provides a big contrast presence of people and animals at night, based on the heat output.
Through this agreement, the Provincial Council of Jaen brings €90,000 for the implementation of the research. It will also be responsible for expanding the ATLAS runway in 400m for hosting more projects by aerial companies in this area.
