The CATEC facilities hosted last June the Advanced Course of Metallic Additive Manufacturing, organized by our Center within the framework of the European project ADDISPACE, in which it participates.

This initiative was aimed at companies interested in learning in deep about processes related to additive manufacturing (AM) technologies, especially in the aerospace sector, with the objective of bringing this technology to SMEs for future acquisition and / or integration into their business models and manufacturing processes, showing the value chain of the entire process, and their real experiences, including the positive and negative aspects.

The course ended with great success, as a total of 22 professionals and experts of the sector completed the capacity of the event. The course lasted 3 days and focused on AM processes and NDT verification techniques (non-destructive testing) applied to aerospace sector. In addition, among other issues, topological optimization and design focused on additive manufacturing were addressed, and one of the most important aspects, focused on non-destructive inspection techniques (NDT) and their added value in this emerging manufacturing process.

The European project ADDISPACE, belonging to the Interrog Sudoe call, is an initiative that aims to promote additive manufacturing technologies as a change in the manufacturing paradigm in the aerospace sector and as an opportunity for SMEs. It also seeks to demonstrate the technological and economic feasibility and high levels of quality of metal components built using this technology.

The project, in which different companies and institutions from Spain, France and Portugal participate, has a duration of 3 years and a budget of 1.7 million euros, of which 1.3 million euros are funded by the ERDF funds. More information in http://www.addispace.eu/.
